Short call reserve, split duty assignment, that ends with a deadhead

    Hello,
I have a short call reserve, split duty assignment, that ends with a deadhead. All the totals look correct (TAFB, credit, block), however the flight duty period is showing 2+59, and it should be 4+19. Any ideas, on what I missed?

I’m actually not sure what the exact legality for this situation would be since it’s split duty, but deadhead at the end of the duty period is not FDP. It is duty only.

Deadhead at the beginning of a duty period, if it is followed by flights you actually fly, IS part of FDP (since it affects your rest prior to actually flying).

If you’re not actually flying after a deadhead, you can legally deadhead forever with no rest, and it’s not FDP, just duty. You only need rest before you can fly another flight yourself.

So because it’s split duty, that makes it a bit more complex, but I suspect that APDL may be correct since it’s not including the deadhead as FDP at all.

Actually, from a strictly legal standpoint, it may not really be split duty at all. Your company may be treating it as a split duty assignment, but as far as I know, it could be operated as a regular duty assignment since rest is not required prior to a deadhead only.

    Hi Andy,

Thanks for the reply. You bring up an interesting point, about it being a split duty. My issue is that my P3 reserve period is from 19:30L-23:59L. I showed, at the airport, with intent to fly, at 19:30L MSP. The flight ended at 23:59L MSP time. My FDP should be 4:19, not 2:59. If I make the schedule two different duty periods, it flags illegal rest. What to do, what to do...

    Thanks for the help, Andy.

    Best regards,

    Beau

Oh it does seem like even just that portion isn’t doing the math correctly. We will have to look into that one some more.

As for split duty, it shouldn’t be two separate duty periods. But in the case of deadhead only, perhaps we need to adjust the code to allow for that.

It's been reported to the "higher ups" to check under the hood and see what's going on.
