After my first backup my loogbook pro looks grey and will not allow me to enter new data or correct data in spreadsheet style. It will however let me input data in windows style

To resolve your issue with the data entry area, reset the layout. You can reset the layout by clicking the far left icon on the sub-toolbar, then selecting the RESET (or Reset Layout) menu option.
