restoring a backup

Okay here is the story

I had to reinstall windows 98 (second edition) on my computer. Once I did that I loaded LBPro (ver 1.6 I think), however when I went to restore my backup everything went fine untill it said that it was updating my database, then LBPro stoped responding. So I thought ... maybe I should upgrade to the latest version 1.9.7 and see if that solved the problem, I did that (uninstalled the old version first) ... but the same problem still exists? What should I do?

Please e-mail your backup file (.BAK) or find your Logbook Pro data file (ends with .LBK) and ZIP compress the LBK file, and e-mail me the BAK or ZIP file (support@nc-software.com) and I'll update it to 1.9.7 for you.
