My father finally wants to back up his logbook after many years online. I'm going through and importing all of his time but when it is done I want to be able to hand it over to him on a different computer. Do we have to get the professional edition or does the standard edition allow this change to happen?

On a different note what happens if you have the standard edition and your computer crashes or you get new one?

The Standard Edition is for one pilot, one computer. Professional Edition is one pilot, two computers. Enterprise Edition is one computer, unlimited pilots. You can purchase licenses from here or upgrade your current license to a higher level here. You can backup the data file and restore to another computer as needed.

You can reactivate your license as needed in the event of a computer failure or replacement. Contact support if assistance needed.
